Overview:
A large part of my life as a musician is the work that I do teaching. In my teaching, I emphasize the importance of learning the fundamentals of both the instrument, and of reading music. After each lesson, I provide students with lesson notes detailing what to practice for that week, and suggestions on how to improve their playing.
Woodwinds:
With woodwind lessons, I place special emphasis on the fundamentals of playing the instrument, including achieving a resonant sound, clean technique, and efficient breathing. These fundamental skills are what allow performers to play with expression and nuance.
Piano:
With piano lessons, I place special emphasis on the ability to read music, and musical theory, as these are transferable skills that can be applied to other instruments. I follow a series of method books that introduce concepts gradually.
Students:
I teach students of various ages and abilities, with a range of musical aspirations. Getting to know my students and their unique personalities is something that helps keep teaching an engaging and rewarding experience.
